JUNE 13 – 19 Basel gets ready for one of the busiest times of the year in the city. June is ART month in Basel. The whole city converts itself into an art gallery both indoors and outdoors. Alongside the already established ART Basel, VOLTA Art Fair has been since 2005 a platform for vibrant art. The art fair is known for being an approachable environment for art discoveries by the engaged art collector.
Between the young art fair LISTE and the heavyweight ART Basel, VOLTA FAIR emphasizes its motto “Discover. Connect. Collect” by showing the art market’s more diverse creative output with a focus on the most recent developments. “VOLTA will extend beyond the limits of just exhibiting art. We want to enter into an exchange with visitors and exhibitors and provide new insights on current topics_ for experience art collectors as well as the ones still at the early stages of their collection”, says VOLTA Director Kamiar Maleki.
This year, VOLTA Art Fair will showcase an outstanding selection of top-class galleries –new and returning – and also young ultra-contemporary programs who deal in NFTs (a non-fungible token is a non-interchangeable unit of data stored on a blockchain, a form of digital ledger, that can be sold and traded). Additionally, the fair will host the first cultural spotlight at an art fair, in which a foundation showcases unrepresented artists from Saudi Arabia, curated by a local curator. This new collaboration is the brainchild of VOLTA Director Kamiar Maleki and Mohammad Hafiz of Athr Gallery. Thus, in 2022, VOLTA has much to offer to the experienced art collector who has a special feel for new trends and looks for distinct viewpoints and geographies.
VOLTA Basel is the second VOLTA edition to take place in 2022: VOLTA returns to New York from May 18 to 22, 2022 at 548 West 22nd Street, the former Dia Building and Hauser & Wirth gallery space.
In Basel it will be hosted at ELYS, Elsässerstrasse 215a from June 13 to 19.
